ATA PROJECTS

Territorial Area Agencies coordinate tourism development on a supra-local scale, fostering collaboration between multiple Tourism Boards. In Garda Trentino, the ATA fully coincides with the boundaries of our Tourism Board and supports strategic projects with widespread benefits for the territory.

What are Territorial Area Agencies

Territorial Area Agencies (ATA) are territorial entities established by Provincial Law no. 8/2020 (art. 8 and art. 16, paragraph 8, and Provincial Government Resolution no. 520). They are coordinated by Trentino Marketing, which has created a dedicated area for their support and development.

ATAs work on the development of inter-area tourism products, bringing together Tourism Boards to jointly design projects capable of strengthening the entire territorial system. Main areas of intervention include:

Data analysis and intelligence (data interpretation and decision support);
Product development and related strategic investments;
Mobility, including studies, research and preparation of new services;
Digital innovation applied to tourism.

Each project must generate benefits across the entire ATA area, have shared relevance for all participating Tourism Boards and fit within a long-term development perspective consistent with the macro-objectives of the Trentino Marketing Strategic Plan.

ATA GARDA TRENTINO

A shared vision for tourism development

In our case, the ATA Garda Trentino fully matches the boundaries of our Tourism Board. This alignment has made it possible to launch and develop over time several strategic projects capable of concretely enhancing the destination and improving the quality of the tourism offer.

ENHANCING LAKE TENNO
Ongoing and completed projects

The project originated from an in-depth analysis process that led to the definition of an overall enhancement strategy for Lake Tenno.

The work included the calculation of carrying capacity, accessibility mapping, analysis of the food & wine offer and a feasibility study for the redevelopment of parking areas and surrounding spaces.

During 2025, the focus shifted to implementing operational actions with strong involvement from the local community, supporting the destination towards a more conscious and prepared management of visitor flows.

aquavita
Ongoing and completed projects

The Comano area is a part of the territory that requires an increase in visitor flows to support investments connected to the thermal tourism sector.

Within this context, the ATA supported the creation of Aquavita Hospitality Club, guiding the participating operators through a structured development process.

The project, developed in collaboration with Kohl & Partner, led to the definition of a new collaboration model between accommodation facilities, focused on quality and coherence with the destination’s thermal positioning.

A NEW HOSPITALITY CONCEPT FOR VALLE DEI LAGHI

The project aims to strengthen the tourism offer of Valle dei Laghi, focusing on accommodation facilities and experiences capable of expressing the strong wine-growing identity of the area. The initiative also supports the broader strategy of positioning Trentino as a Wine Destination.

The work started with mapping the existing offer — including untapped potential — and evolved into the definition of development scenarios, with the design of experiences and hospitality models supported by numerical data and economic impact estimates.

Interested operators also benefited from a dedicated consulting service designed to support their tourism and commercial development, stimulate ideas and facilitate the steps necessary to bring them to life.

MOBILITY IN VALLE DI LEDRO
Ongoing and completed projects

During 2024, with the support of internationally recognized consultants and in close collaboration with the Municipality of Ledro, we developed a comprehensive analysis process focused on mobility in Valle di Ledro.

The work included data analysis, in-depth interviews with local stakeholders, a study trip to Freiburg and the Black Forest, surveys involving tourism operators, residents and guests, installation of movement sensors, Vodafone data analysis and pilot projects carried out during the San Michele Fair.

This process led to the development of a Strategic Sustainable Mobility Plan, formally adopted by the new municipal administration and now entering the implementation phase according to the ASI strategy (Avoid – Shift – Improve).

FOOD & WINE
Ongoing and completed projects

The project focuses on the development of food, wine and culinary tourism, combining product development with storytelling and knowledge-sharing tools available to local operators, such as the Olive Oil Map and the Materia Prima toolkit.

Within this framework, thematic trails represent a key tool for transforming products into territorial experiences. After the creation of the Olive Trail in Arco, dedicated to the olive-growing culture of Lake Garda and its olive oil, the project has now expanded into Valle dei Laghi with the Nosiola Trail.

An initiative designed to enhance Trentino’s only native white grape variety and its iconic products — Nosiola wine, Vino Santo and grappa — strengthening the relationship between landscape, production and local identity.

GSTC CERTIFICATION
Ongoing and completed projects

In a context of profound social, environmental and economic change, Trentino has long committed itself to becoming an increasingly responsible destination, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Provincial Sustainable Development Strategy (SproSS).

Within this framework, since 2022 the ATAs have supported Tourism Boards in their certification processes according to the standards of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), providing methodological support and shared tools.

For our destination, this path led in June 2025 to obtaining the certification: a concrete achievement that strengthens our commitment to a tourism development model that is responsible, measurable and focused on the long term.

VELA 365
Ongoing and completed projects

Milder winters, evolving equipment and increasingly high-quality services are helping overcome the seasonality of water sports, making the Upper Garda area attractive all year round.

The Vela 365 project originated from the ideas competition “A Masterplan for the Conca d’Oro” and develops across several areas: from the creation of a winter sailing product to the development of an indoor athletic training facility (operational from March 2026), as well as the provision of coaching and safety equipment.

The next phase includes the direct involvement of the destination and local operators, with the support of EHL Innovation Hub, a spin-off of the École Hôtelière de Lausanne, to support businesses adopting a year-round management model with clear and measurable goals.

“The collaboration with ATA Garda Trentino is truly innovating our approach to product development in Garda Trentino: an increasingly structured, scientific and strategic approach that goes beyond the concept of a simple tourism product and generates concrete value, especially for the people who live here every day.”

PROJECTS IN THE START-UP PHASE

And there’s more to come…

The ATA is constantly working on several strategic projects for the Upper Garda area, with the goal of improving the usability of the territory and addressing mobility challenges in a structured way.

On one side, the completion of the Busatte–Tempesta panoramic route is currently being evaluated, including the possible introduction of an electric boat return service and the enhancement of a municipal building through the creation of a pier and a dedicated service point.

At the same time, the ATA is developing a mobility plan for the Upper Garda area, designed to systematically address one of the main critical issues affecting Riva, Arco and Torbole: vehicle traffic. The goal is to integrate the major infrastructure works already planned with supporting services capable of making traffic reduction truly effective.

Both projects are currently evolving and more details regarding their development and implementation will be shared in the coming months.
